Meet Lou Lichtl

For more than 36 years, Lou Lichtl has served and inspired students in public education. Lou has spent 26 years within Ventura County and the Conejo Valley as an educator. With experience in policy development, budget oversight, and community building, Lou brings decades of true and tested professionalism, knowledge, and networks to the position of Community College Trustee. 

As the son of Cuban political refugees, Lou has lived the promise of the American Dream. Lou understands the difference that education can make in someone’s life. Through faith, perseverance, and determination, Lou attended Culver City High School, West Los Angeles Community College, California State University Long Beach, Pepperdine University, and California Lutheran University. Lou has been a member of the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) since 1995 and was named the Co-Administrator of the year while serving at Westlake High School. He has also served as the local Charter and Region 13 Legislative Action Representative and was named one of 25 Distinguished Scholars at California Lutheran University’s School of Education.

Lou spent ten years as an Assistant Principal, seven of which were within the Conejo Valley. In 2005 he was promoted to the role of Principal at Redwood Middle School for four years, and at Thousand Oaks High School for over eight years. In December of 2017, Lou was appointed Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services, and Compliance Officer for the last three and a half years of his public school career, a career that spanned 36 years. Lou is currently employed at Passageway School in Newbury Park, a non-public school for students with special needs, offering highly individualized support for students with disabilities.

Lou resides in Newbury Park with his wife of 34 years, Lisa. Together they have two children, both products of the Conejo Valley Unified School District, now 29 and 26, living in Kansas City, MO, and Anchorage, AK respectively. In his free time, you can find Lou on a local golf course, watching the Los Angeles Rams, or on the campaign trail.
